A few weeks ago I made a list of 7 problems I was having with my computer. I was able to solve two of them by reading other people's problems on this site, so I thought I'd run this, the most annoying of all my problems, by you guys. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated . . .
Whenever I try to use the Internet I can browse between one and, say, four different pages and then I get a box telling me that I have reached the open window limit and that I need to close some windows to proceed. The thing is, the Internet, specifically (*sigh) AOL, is the ONLY window that's open. I don't understand it.
Oh, restarting the computer entirely will allow me to log back on and look at one to four more pages. Also, if the pages are linked, I can sometimes access more than four before I reach the "limit".
Any thoughts on this?

The limit may be built into AOL?
What happens if you use Internet Explorer instead of AOL? Sign on to AOL as usual, then minimize it, then browse using Internet Explorer & see how many links you can right click on & "open in a new window"...

BTW, I did a search to try to find your system specs...it appears the model number (CV735) is for your monitor...lol

jam,lol . . . yeah, I'm a real genius like that. How about a Compaq Presario 5000T? Does that sound better?
First, I don't think the problem has to do with an AOL preset limit or anything, because I've had AOL for years and this problem is probably 2 months old.
I DO, however, now think that the problem is with AOL and not the computer, as I tried using IE, as you suggested and the open window limit problem did not appear.
Here's the funny thing though . . . using IE to browse works fine for awhile and then IE "causes an error in" MSHTML.DLL !!!
(When it rains it pours!!!)
I'd still like to figure out what's causing the open window limit problem, too, but since it seems to be an AOL-related problem, I suspect that drastically reduces the number of people who can help. I know a lot of people don't like AOL.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion and any other thoughts you've got would be great.
(I'm about to call it a night, but I'll check back after work tomorrow. Thanks.)

toddg,
What's that saying, oh yes. Go to the source, and that source would be AOL. This, is what AOL help, had to say. If you haven't tried that, give it a try. Nothing, could be that simple, right. Hey, you never know ;-)

I'm guessing, but something tells me, you still have the 'original' IE 5.5, that was installed with WinME. Seeing as you have, and use AOL, yes. Like I said, that's a guess, and can bee a reason, for the error message. Well, that's not the hole reason. But, if you were to upgrade your IE browser, to say IE 5.5 SP2, and also security updates for it. You most likely wouldn't have that problem, with IE.
That's my two ¢ worth. Don't get to many thought, for two ¢ these days
:-)Good luck,

Looks like "I'll Try" came up with a solution to your main problem...
This may help with your other problem, or you may just wanna run Windows update & go with IE6:

toddg,
Did that take care of the problem(s)? If it did, what are the other four(4), on your list. Who knows, you might get lucky, and solve/fix them all ;-)
Good luck,
I'll Try
