Can anyone help with a simplified way of troubleshooting Me? The Microsoft support sites seem to need a month to unravel!
I have a multitude of different messages displayed, if there was just one or two I might find the answer on MS site! The majoritya involve Explorere or IExplorer and invalid page faults in SMGR.DLL, SHELL32.DLL, MSHTML.DLL, NETBIOS.DLL, URLMON.DLL, KERNEL32.DLL (the most common), plus others suvch as STIMON - inv page fault in RPCRT4.DLL, and SETUP inv page fault in SETUP.exe
I have run Device Manager and it confirms that all devices are working properly and turning of various sections in the Selective start up in MSCONFIG has not helped. Often once it is running I can shutdown and start again immediately without difficulty. I think I have fixed ti until restarting the next day and it all statr over again!!
Any suggestions PLEASE??

To many dll's and other things are going wrong for it to be a simple fault, I would try reinstalling ME over the top of itself. If the problems persist it will be a format and new install job

Got it now.... Your installation of IE5 has gone wrong, reinstall it then go to windows update to get the new IE5.5 SP1 (The IE5 that came on the ME disk has bugs in it)

Hey, Thanks so much for the quick replies! I did not expect to hear so quickly.
Unfortunately, I am not much better off as (I should have said in my first message) I have already tried a reformat of my C: drive and downloaded the updated IE5.5 Service Pack 1!! Any other suggestions? Please dont say 'Nope!' So many things I like in Me make me reluctant to go back to 98 Second Edition! Incidentally, I loaded Me as an update to 98SE. Would it be worth trying a reformat of the C drive again, and then install 95, upgrade to 98, again to 98SE and then go for Me again, without installing anything else along the way?
I hope someone can assist, thanks guys! and Happy New Year!!

The BEST way to install WinME is by itself. Do not do the upgrade. Although the upgrade may work for some people it usually causes more problems than its worth. When you upgrade to WinME old drivers and programs can remain in effect and cause conflicts.

Thanks MrMike, but does this mean I have to scrap my Update and go and buy the full version, or is there a way to reinstall an Update as a 'full' version? I guess not, but just thought Id ask

Quote from MS:
You can use the Windows Me Upgrade package to upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition. If your operating system is not currently installed, you can use the Windows Me Upgrade to install Windows Me if you can provide the disks or CD-ROM from a previous version of Windows to confirm your eligibility for the upgrade. You are prompted for this media during Windows Me Setup.
