So I elimiated a ton of spyware from my computer, and IE works again beautifully. my system seems to be good, except I cannot open my computer, search, windows explorer or any file folder on my desktop. I can use IE to go through my files, but I cannot search for a file called unknown, which was what I wanted to do in the first place.

I still cannot use my search to find these things. I am unsure what to do. everytime I open a file folder I get a SHELL32.DLL, or an UNKNOWN ERrror, other errors are:
SHDOCVW.DLL and SHLWAPI.DLL.

anyone know if these dll's are essiental and where I could find them?

thanks!

First, try repairing Internet Explorer.

Control panel >> +/- programs >> highlight IE6 >> click "remove" button and select repair.

Second, you extract your own system files from your own cab files. They are either already sat on your hard disk drive, or on your ME CD.

Either way there waiting for you to get them :)

MSKB A 265371 - HOW TO: Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me

In other words, open up msconfig and for, specify file to restore, you would put, SHELL32.DLL or SHDOCVW.DLL or SHLWAPI.DLL.

In restore to, for ALL of them, put c:\windows\system

and extract from either:
c:\windows\options\install

or
c:\windows\optons\cabs

If that doesn't work for any reason, boot up with your ME startup disk and at the A:\> prompt, type.

ext

and follow your nose through the onscreens -- you put the same information as above.

...yes, I saw your previous post where you repaired IE. Try it again, after you did whatever you did, or ran, in the last post.
