Hello i am running an Asus V7700 Nvidia Geforce2 GTS and am wondering if anyone running a similar chip can give me some pointers on 3D configurations that you have enabled .
Has anyone installed the most recent Nvidia drivers and what results did you get?
Any feedback would be appreciated...thanks.

Hi, I have a PNY Verto GeForce2 MX400 (PCI), and I have the latest 23.11 drivers from NVIDIA without any problems, but I don't think there is any performance boost that I can tell from older versions of these drivers. I have NVMax to tweak some of my special settings that aren't in the display properties for my vid card.

But in my Direct3D settings are as follows: Enable Fog Table Emulation (YES), Mip Map Detail Level (Best Image Quality), PCI Texture Memory Size (25MB, I have 256MB RAM), Verticle Synce (Auto Select), and Render no more than (2) frames ahead.

OpenGL: Enable Buffer Region Extension (YES), Allow dual planes extension to use local video memory (YES), Use fast MipMap Linear Filtering (YES), Disable Support for enhanced CPU Instruction Sets (Mine is checked but I havn't noticed any difference either way), Default color depth for textures (use desktop color depth, which for me is 32bpp at a resolution of 800x600), Buffer flipping mode (Auto Select), Verticle Synce (Mine has to be enabled cause I had problems with tearing, but it is recommended to turn this to always off so you'll get better fps), Anisotropic Filtering (mine is enabled) use up to (5MB) for PCI texture memory, unless you're using a AGP card this doesn't matter, same with the Direct3D option).

And finally Antialiasing settings: I let apps control this.

Also you can find more tips from tweak3d.net
Also for NVMax check out nvmax.com I have the overclocking tab showing but I don't use overclocking cause my core is at 200MHz and my memory is at 333MHz and I feel that is fast enough for the games I play (Quake3 Arena, Half-Life, TFC ect.) And I play all my games in a resolution of 1024x768. I hope any of this info was of any use to you. I strongly recommend checking out tweak3d.net if you havn't already.

I don't change me resoltion before entering games. Am not sure if I should be doing it like that :) but I havn't had any problems so far. I'm running my card on an Intel 810e mobo. It's wierd when I startup Team Fortress Classic cause it goes from my desktop res. (800x600) to the menus (640x480) to the game (1024x768) so the screen blinks whenever I'm changing from one res. to another. I also play in OpenGL whenever possible.

Krezno suggest that you change your desktop resolution before loading your games.Running a different resolution on your dt can cause all kinds of problems with directx...games will crash to the desktop on startup. The computer itelf may crash on game exit as directx scrambles to reset the correct dt resolution.Resetting will only take a second and could prevent problems.
Good luck and thanks.

I do have wierd problems when using Direct3D with games like TFC and Half-Life. All will be fine until I decide to leave the game and then when I get back to menus I have the upper half of the screen I'm supposed to be on and the lower half of the screen before that spliced together and the only way to get out of that is to shutdown my computer manually. I only play in Direct3D when I absolutely have no choice and I always have it set to Desktop res. 800x600. When I use OpenGL I don't have any problems at all running my games at higher resolutions than my desktop. Even if I play Half-Life in direct3d with a res. of 800x600 the same thing still happens because the damned menus for that game are still at 640x480 and Sierra told me there was no way to change that. Anyway thanks for the input. I wish Sierra would give us an option to change the res. for the menus as it does cause problems with direct3d. I just use OpenGL to get around these problems when I can. I've never had any problems like what you have described above (Thank God) but I never had any problems whatsoever with OpenGL. Cheers!
