I have a backup computer that hasn't been online in four months. I use it for burning cds and music storage etc. All of a sudden there are numbers over the screen. Like there's a "2" where the "X" should be to close a screen. A "1" where the maximize square is. A "0" in the minimize square. There are 6s and 8s all over my toolbars. If you go to start then the programs menu, there are 6's and 8s everywhere. Any place where you have to select something (put a black dot in a blank circle). You can't make anything out. System Restore was unsuccessful. I took out the memory and reseated it. I dusted everything out in the cabinet. This is a strange one. Any ideas? Help! Thanks in advance.

ro229, sounds to me like there could be a variety of things responsible. First thing to rule out is some sort of nasty. Do the various scans to eliminate that possibility. Once you're sure there's no nasty, the video card's next. Swap? Next comes monitor. Same deal. Swap? Still got it? Punt. Time to seek professional help IMHO. HTH. Ed in Texas.

The Marlett.ttf (font file) is used to display the minimze/maximize/close buttons, so it's probably either missing or corrupted.
