I'm using Windows ME and I have 256 Megs of Ram and still constantly get the message Not Enough Free Memory, close something to continue (something like that). This happens whenever I'm on the net just looking around. When I restart my computer I have around 90% free resources, and in no time I'll be down to 30% or less and have to restart again. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanx

You have a great system and plenty of RAM for ME but this has nothing to do with system resources memory which I think you are talking about.
System resources is a limited and small area of memory used by Windows to store various components every time you use a program, e.g. buttons, boxes, menus etc. When you close the program not all the system resource memory may be released and as your work builds up during the day you may run out of resources, or if you open a lot of programs together the same thing may happen (by the way Norton System Doctor hogs these resources if it is running, so shut it down first).
The best cure is to reboot occasionally during the day. I make it a habit (a tedious but necessary one) to reboot whenever a game has been played on any of the PCs for which I am responsible because they can cause havoc with system resources and to reboot whenever strange things start happening, like delays opening things, etc.
However, if you are just reading resource meter and the numbers are going up and down but not causing any problems, don't bother doing anything.
Because your resources are going down to 30% quickly I would look at what you have running in the background and close down as much as possible. Look at point 9 of this post and go to Pac's and start closing down stuff in msconfig. Then why not look at the other points too? :)

By the way, there's also a load of other opinions on the problem here

I have the same problem, my system resources steadily decline. It's to the point where I have about an hour and a half before I have to reboot. I bought the computer new, with Windows ME installed...[unfortunately]. I've tried everything from setting my own virtual memory to disabling system restore...and nothing changes how fast the resources decline. I have 128 MB of RAM, and I've shut down all but the basic programs to run at start up. From what I've read, Windows ME has a memory leak. Good luck!
