not a valid win32 application

Hello, I started getting this error message whenever I try to access a jpeg in my windows explorer however I can open the same jpeg in my photo editor. Also getting same error in my control panel and cannot access anything in it. Is this virus related? Is a quick fix available? I went back to a restore point several days ago but didn't help.
Would appreciate your help.
Allen

Are you sure .jpg is the whole extension of the file(s)? Open Windows Explorer>tools menu>folder options>view, uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types" and click apply and okay out of folder options.

Did this expose a double file extension? (like whatever.jpg.exe or similar)

checked and "hide file extensions for known file types" is unchecked. No double file extensions showing.

Hi again,

If I were you I would run some online virus scans with your onboard antivirus program disabled to prevent any sort of conflict/interference.

Here is a site that uses Panda software that may not be as busy as the main Panda site:

https://testzone.secunia.com/online_antivirus/

Trend Micro also has a free online scanner called Housecall (or similar). I understand RAV has one that is very good (from what I have read) at detecting malware other than viruses trojans and worms, spyware malware etc.

Hello Leori
I overwrote my rundll32 file and then could access my control panel and access things in windows explorer.
Also run a scan on the panda software site as the one listed above didn't want to work for me.
found three infected files and disinfected them. guess I had some kind of trojan.
many thanks for your help.
