whenever I burn programs to a blank cd, I get ".exe is not a valid win32 application" when I try to install it from the CD. The program will install fine from the hard disk before I copy it. After the program is burned, and I copy it back to the hard drive, I get the same error. So something is not being copied to the cd during the burn process or something. I am using easy cd creator which recognizes it, and I have not had any problems in the past. This started a few weeks ago, and I had not installed any software or anything. I don't know what to do. My LG burner is aparently plug and play, so there are no specific drivers for it.

OK, I just installed and used nero burning rom and it worked fine. So it is obviously easy cd creator. Funny since this is what came with my burner. If anyone knows a fix for this, please let me know. At the very least, hopefully this will help someone else that had the same problem as me.

I get the same error message when trying to open
a copy of Autocad Architectural Desktop. I can not find a solution to it. I can not open it from a file or from a CD. I checked Windows Knowledge database. They have solutions for the same error involving other applications but not for Autocad. Hmmmm....

Strange, I thought it was just me.

The other day I used ECDC 5.3 to add a few *.exe files to a bootable CD I had made a last week ago and used with no problem then.

When the *.exe files were added to the CD, every other one was unusable. Cost me a lot of time because I had taken the CD to another location to install a few programs on a different machine.

I came back and examined the CD. Found that every other *.exe file (all were EXE files) copied were zeroed. By that I mean the directory entry for each bad file was OK but the DATA was all 00 00 00 00 or zeros. Nothing there.

So I repeated the test. Added the same files and a few more to the CD after importing the first session. Again, every other file copied to the CD was bad, ie. the file data all zeros.

I have been using this same configuration for many months. I have done the same operations many times with no problems. No real changes except for updating SpyBot and a few such programs. Have done SpyBot scan, AV scans, etc. and found nothing suspect.

The only thing not normal, was that the CD was created as a bootable CD (Windows ME Start diskette boot image). This was the first time I had tried to add files to a bootable CD.

I then successfully added the files to another CD that was used to make the failing CD. No problems?

Have not had time to look into what is going on yet. This thread shocked me. So now I must look into what is going on.

Thanks for the responses. It cost me a lot to time (and cd-r's) too, as I took my cd to install stuff on a friends computer, and every .exe program had the win32 error. I can't think of anything I installed to screw this up, and this just started happening one day. I always scan for viruses, and did again last night. I don't see how it can be a hardware problem if one program can burn it right and another cannot.

Your system is OK (have been there too)

pls check the following:
* bring up control panel
* system
* devicemanager tab
* select cdrom
* select your cd (if you have more than 1)
* click properties
* settings tab
* UNSELECT DMA (only needed for harddrives and NOT CDs)

this usually happens when dfrinenames are remapped.

worked 4 Ramon

The program file Newprof.exe (used to create new profiles) mst have been corrupted some how (virus, disk error). It needs to be replaced. It is part of several Micro$oft packages. There also must be something in the startup or Start menue that is starting these applications, that could be removed.
