Hello i am currently running nav 2001.While doing manual scans nav hangs resulting in a reboot. The hanging appears to be random ie. not the same file every time.Nav is configured to scan program files only and to not scan compressed files.Any suggestions?

While the Norton Utilities (Systemworks) has been a problem for ME users the antivirus product has had few complaints.
I take it you are not on the Internet when trying this scan, have loaded all the latest updates for Norton, and have no programs running in the tray except the clock and the anti virus.
I take it that you feel you have sufficient RAM memory, hard disk space, et cetera.

Could be a background program interfering in some way with the scan. Have a look at this post, especially points 1,2,5,6,7,9 http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/14062.html
Please post back how you get on.

Tim/Trev..thanks for the quick response.14062is full of good sound advice to keep me running smoothly. As it turns out Zonealarm was running mailsafe protection at the same time as nav email protection. Disabled mailsafe, set nav to scan all files,no compressed files and so far so good.
