A user loaded Norton Internet Security which includes the anti virus and immediately started having problems couldn't get any websites on the internet it wouldn't uninstall it's 2004 version and the symantec site doesn't offer an uninstall tool for it so I tried getting rid of it using JV16 Power tool and natually that caused problems so I'm trying to reload Windows Millenium and when the computer tries to restart after loaing files I get a message that says Nav autostart unable to start. Symevnt.386 not loaded. Press any key to contiue but no matter what key I press it just hangs up there. I tried loading the Milleniuym update a second time and the same thing happened. Any ideas how I can get around this problem reload windows and get rid of Norton Internet security and anti virus completely?
Thanks

You have 2 options.
1. - search your hard drive and registry for all mentions of symantec and norton and remove the associated folders, files and registry entries. Search for symevnt.386 and remove it if it isn't already gone.
If that cures the problems, OK.
2. - If not, you are probably best to format your hard drive and reinstall Windows. Point 17 of the homepage link on this response gives you plenty of links on how to do that. Make sure you have your data backed up and drivers ready for your peripherals before you start.
Norton 2001 or 2002 are best with ME - I have had serious problems with 2003 on some ME installations, though I haven't tried 2004 yet. 2003 and 2004 are primarily written for Windows XP. If you can get hold of an old copy of 2001 or 2002 it will work best for you. Do not go back as far as 2000 because that is compatible only with Windows 98.

Symantec does have removal tools for its products at their support/download area. Antivirus removal tool is rnav.exe2003", systemworks is "symclean", Norton Internet Security is "Nis.exe". Just do a Google search and you will see them.
