Hey all. I realise that all of you are bright individuals.. even though I don't classify myself as one.. I have a little minor problem. Recently I have just purchased "Norton Internet Security 2002". Being the happy person that I was.. I popped this into my CD drive.. and tried to install it.. but to my disbelief... it says that I have an older version of Norton Antivirus still installed on my computer... even though I have removed every possible file on my computer.... associated to the previous version of Norton Antivirus.. I've tried everything.. I've gone to msconfig.. and disabled Norton Antivirus on start up.. I've tried to install it and uninstall it.. and it still thinks I have it installed.. I've tried to manually delete any folder or file associated to the previous Norton AntiVirus version.. as of now.. I am completely unprotected by the demons of the internet.. if anyone of you.. can help me with this problem.. it is greatly appreciated. Please help a stressed guy out :)

Ted.

did you run the uninstall (add and remove programs) of norton or just delete its folder?
It shouldnt be in msconfig if youve uninstalled it.

I think the problem may be that although you uninstalled NAV (from Add\Remove?), there are numerous Registry entries left behind which interfere with the new installation.
You then have to manually uninstall the 'bits' from the Registry.
All this is known by Symantec and they have an article which gives detailed instructions on how to do this.
I'm sorry I can't give you a direct linke - I printed the article out and I doubt if I'd ever find the link again because Symantec's site is dreadful to navigate.
If you need it and can't find it, post back, I'll save it as a simple text file and send it to you.
At Symantec's site, go to the trouble shooting page and hence to the Knowledge Base.
Put in the Search something like "NAV Manual uninstall"

Yepperz. You have to take a dip in the ol' regedit pool. Make sure you do a backup before jumping in.
