Norton anti-virus 2002

Me, 800P3, 128/30/RW/D I am removing McAfee firewall and installing Norton Anti-Virus 2002. Prep instructions call for closing all other windows programs. Does this mean all but Explorer and systray and any dangers or precautions in closing them? Would like to hear from anyone who has done this before I start the Norton install. Many thanks.

I recently installed NAV 2002. I didn't close the programs that run in the background. Just IE, my DSL connection, and any windows that may have been open. I guess NAV doesn't want you to be moving/modifying files when it's being installed. Just be sure to uninstall any previous Anti-virus software to avoid conflicts.

I'm not sure, but I always close out everything but explorer and systray before installing. I have wondered about that myself, as it says to close all other programs running. I know it has never hurt any installs by closing out everything but explorer and systray, not that I can tell. Maybe someone else who is more knowledgable will post, but as for me, I close out everything. Sorry not to be more help.

It is always best to close everything but explorer and systray, just in case, and the advice to completely remove previous anti-virus software is essential. Even search the system and registry for mentions of it and get rid of them there too.
