Comment:

When I close winword, even when I have done no work with the program whatsoever, I keep getting the message:

"changes have been made that affect the global template, normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes? Yes/No/Cancel"

I have tried deleting "normal.dot" altogether, but soon the problem re-emerges.

I know at least one other user of winword who has the same problem.

Does anyone have a solution, and possibly know how this problem comes do develop? (My computer and that of the other person are stand-alone machines)

Apologies if this MS article includes elements of some of the answers already given. My Word 2000 came as part of Works Suite and Cause 2 listed in the article and its fix sorted out this problem on my PC. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q241763

I've got the problem also. I've seen these kind of problems before in MSIE. You must either, always answer the question, or let the program do what it does without knowing when or what its doing. What's the purpose of such a useless option "Prompt to save Normal template". A third option should be "Disable all updates to Normal template". Alas no such option.

I am using Windows XP running Invercible Interceptor as my virus checker and every time it checks it comes up saying that Normal.dot is infected with a virus. This only started occuring recently (last week or two) although i have had my PC running fine before that for over a month. Is Normal.dot a virus? if so, how do you get rid of it??. please e-mail a reply as i don't check here often.
