I just wanted to know whether you can put for example western digital HDD into IBM machine? or it HAS to be IBM very own one?

No you can put in whatever you want , the caveat being the size that the Windows OS will handle . Some of the older windows programs like win 98 an ME won't handle the huge 300 gig harddrives they have now.
