No windows ME startup logo...

hi, Don't know if anyone else has come across this but when my PC boots up, it displays the startup screen for about half a second then the screen just goes black with a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner while it continuing to load. I have tried putting a Logo=1 under Options in Msdos.sys but it makes no difference, i also tried to disable the options in msconfig (the startup logo appears when running the computer in the safe mode) but with no result. Any suggestions anyone ???
