Comment:

My thumbnail option under view is missing. I tried typing in regsvr32thumbvw.dll in the run command as per one suggestion from this board and it says can't find file.

Also missing is the New option under file for creating a new folder.

Thanks

Are you looking for the thumbnail view in the 'MY PICTURES' folder or in an ordinary folder?

This is for the ordinary folders.....

Open the folder & click VIEW - CUSTOMIZE THIS FOLDER - NEXT - NEXT - IMAGE PREVIEW - NEXT - FINISH.

I can't help with the other NEW FOLDER OPTION.

You may also want to look at a file called 'THUMBNAIL FIX'. I think it's a reg file that you can get for free from....

Thanks for your help,

I followed your directions on customizing the folder - still no thumbnails on the view drop down menu.

I went to burzurq.com and downloaded the file. Still no thumbnails.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Vicki

I went to the two sights and followed directions. Still no thumbnails listed under view. Am I wrong but do these programs just deal with a type of file that you cannot view as thumbnails or do they deal with the fact that the menu item is not even listed??

Vicki,

Check in your registry, for these entries. If not there, that could be your problem. Well, that's if I'm understanding the problem you're having. Here is a reg file, that will put/install those entries for you. No guaranty, as a fix to your problem. Use at your own risk, and choice.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ExtShellViews\{8BEBB290-52D0-11d0-B7F4-00C04FD706EC}]
"MenuName"="T&humbnails"
"HelpText"="Displays items using thumbnail view."
"ToolTip"="Displays items using thumbnail view."
"TooltipText"="Thumbnails"

Later,
CrazyOne

I checked in the registry for the information listed in response 8 regarding HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE . . . . .
All those lines are in the registry.

After all you've tried, I can't imagine what's wrong. You could try this--at least it won't hurt:

Go to Start/Run, type in
ScanregW /fix

If still no luck, try posting here:

When you do get it fixed, please let us all know the details.

Vicki,

If all those registry entries, that I gave, are there. Then the "Thumbnails" option, will be listed under the "View" menu. Are there any other things listed in the;
{8BEBB290-52D0-11d0-B7F4-00C04FD706EC}
key. Besides, what I said, and the reg file I made. Did you try merging the reg file, to see if it helped. Just curious.

I tried scanregW /fix - no thumbnails option
I checked the line from response 11 and there is nothing else listed except what you have listed I did go to the web site and download the registry entries and merge it into the registry.
The fascinating thing about this whole issue is that the new option under file disappeared at the at the same time. Thanks Vicki

I clicked on the link from message 13 and added the value in the registry. Still now new under file and no thumbnail under view. I did reboot. I am using windows ME and that wasn't mentioned on the link as one of the operating systems that this worked for.

Type into Run: regsvr32.exe /i shell32.dll

This fix worked for me, with WinME, experiencing the identical problem.
Good luck!

You're brilliant! I had both the "new" and "thumbnail" problem. I had fixed the first based on a suggestion elsewhere that involved registry entries. Now this took care of the thumbnails.

Any chance you have a similarly brilliant idea for restoring the Help and Support center?

Save everything below the === as
FixWinMeHelp.reg or pick any name---with a .reg extension. Then double click on it.

ToniArts RegCleaner no longer poses this problem, but the fix may work, depending on how you came to this problem.

Before using, (just to make sure) go to start/run, type
C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.exe
click yes to back up again.

If the fix does not help, go to start/run and type
C:\WINDOWS\SCANREGW.exe /restore
and click on the latest restore date.
