What kind of sound do you have , intergrated onboard sound or a PCI sound card ? If you have a sound card ,it could some how have become not properly seated ,reseat it in the PCI slot and see if that helps , also in device manager is there a yellow exclamation mark by the sound entry or a red X .You can aleways try removing the item in device manager ,when you reboot ,Windows will detect the harware and prompt you to re install it ! How about your sound driver, try removing and reinstalling the driver, did it become corrupted somehow ,you can use the sound troubleshooter in Windows help , it may find the problem .I had AC97 intergrated sound and always had problems with it ,even tech support could not get it working ,I finally install a PCI sound card and have never had a problem since .They are very affordable ! Dont forget the frist thing to do is check your speakers and the connectors , I doubt this is your problem tho ,since you do not have a spaeker icon on the taskbar ! Good Luck nick
let me guess your explorer freezed and you had to reboot and when you did no sound, am i close? What happened is you lost your driver, to make sure go to: 1. start 2. settings 3. control panel 4. system folder 5. device manager
now look to see if you have a CD rom driver or sound driver should be ESS, if not open quick recovery and reload your audio drivers, then reboot and you should be back in buisness.
I am on windows 98 I have a sound card installed but no sound, I have tried reinstalling the sound card and when i reboot, windows detects it. it doesn't ask me to reinstall drivers or anything but when i insert some cd-roms it says no sound card is detected i used to have a speaker in the taskbar but it isn't there now and i can't get it back as the box you click in sound is shaded.
