Hi

I have no sound. I have speakers, intergrated via AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller, the latest drivers and no sound. The sound schemes are installed and all the rest of it but the odd thing is that if i go into Control Panel > Sound and Multimedia Properties, the sound volume slide bar is greyed out, as is the tick box for displaying the icon in the notification area. I tried to open the Volume Control from the start menu but nothing happens - i went straight to the sndvol32.exe file (in C:\Windows) and tried to start it direct from that but nothing. I also tried removing the Volume Control component from the OS all together and rebooting and then re-installing it but again nothing. I'm thinking the file sndvol32.exe is corrupt (the origonal cab file). Any idea what i can do about this please? Really frustrating!

If it's a simple case of downloading a new copy then brilliant, but where do i get one from? I did do a search for a copy but couldn't find one! Any help very appreciated.

Thanks

The sound is on Auto in the BIOS. I changed it to Enabled anyway to try that and it still didn't work.

Do you think i may need to repair the Operating System? If so, how do i do that on ME?

Thanks

HIT,

In Device Manager under 'Sound, video and game controllers'. Any problems, or anything disabled? Any problems in Device Manager, for that matter.

Where you were at before 'Sounds and Multimedia'. Click the 'Audio' (Tab). What's listed for 'Preferred device:', at/under each? If it isn't greyed out. Can you change what's listed? That's if it isn't correct.

You say the drivers are installed. Any special drivers needed for the motherboard? Besides, what you installed.

Was this working before? If so, any changes that might of caused this? Programs, virus, update, ect.

Good Luck,
CrazyOne

p.s. What's the specs, of this computer?

I use XP Pro - i'm working on a machine that uses ME.

Problem solved now. I've been dumb - wrong drivers!! It's a friends computer that typically had no drivers of any kind with it, but i tracked down the CORRECT ones and installed them, now everything is fine.

Sorry for wasting your time poeple, but thank you for the help anyway it was much appreciated. I love this forum :)
