Comment: recently installed a new creative sb pci128 sound card, but i get no sound. first problem i had was missing files, but now i got that sorted. problem now is, when i try to play any sounds, especially with windows media player, it tells me i dont have a sound device installed. i check device manager and it appears ok, telling me the device is working properly. also when i check settings/control panel/sounds, the volume slide bar and audio properties are greyed out. does anyone know if maybe the soundcard isnt compatable with Me, or have i mistakenly deleted necessary files? pleeese help, its driving me nutz!!

Reply: (edit)This is a long shot, because it does sound like a driver installation problem, even though the device appears to be working OK. I believe the SB cards come with their own software - mixer etc. Have you tried opening those and checking the settings? Do you have a yellow speaker icon in your system tray at the bottom right of the screen? If so, right click it, open the volume controls and check that the sliders are all up and nothing is muted. Finally, did you replace another sound card with your SB, and/or do you have one integral to your motherboard? If so, you should go into Audio Properties (right click the yellow speaker icon) and check that your sound card is in the preferred devices (and uncheck Use only preferred devices).
