I had a problem with video drivers and tried to reload Windows 95, which caused the computer to crash. I took it to a shop to get rebooted and had Windows ME installed at that time as I needed it or 98 for accessing MSN. Now it won't play sound, just a continuous fast beeping from the speakers. I removed the sound card drivers from the Device Manager and let Windows reinstall it's recommended drivers. I removed the sound card from the board and reinstalled it (Genius Soundmaker 3DX) with no results. I uninstalled the original sound card and installed a Genius 3DX2. The beeping got faster was the only change. In Device Manager, all devices are working properly with no conflicts. Volume is ok. DirectX Diagnostic tool sound tabs 1, 2, 3, 4, and music report no problems found, but shows test failure at setup 19 (user verification). Sounds and multimedia tests won't play midi or wav. Drivers are installed. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

It's not from the motherboard, the volume button on the speakers adjusts the volume of the beeping and it disappears when you turn off the speakers. I'm not saying it isn't error signals, but there's no apparent pattern, if there is, it beeps too fast to tell any pauses.

Problem solved! On a hunch, I went into the CMOS and set the PNP/PCI system back to the defaults and the sound now works. A big thanks for listening and trying to help. After weeks of trying, it's good to have found an answer.

Dear friends,
I'm hearing continous beep-beep.... from motherboard while the laptop is loading...
after loading also its kind of behaving in a wierd way...
Like , if double click on a item its asking "do you want to put it in recycle bin" ..!!!
and the display is becoming bad...
and loading taking much longer time... and continuous beeping throughout the loading period....
please advise ,
