Comment: I am getting no sound out on my Dell Inspiron 2500.When I click on Volume Control, nothing pops up, the Volume Control under Sounds and Multimedia is grayed out, and there is no icon for multimedia next to my clock. I have tried to reinstall my audio Driver (Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - Sigma Tel Codec) from both the drivers and utilities CD and Dell's website..still no sound. Although under Device Manager it indicates that the device is working properly, I still get no sound.

Reply: (edit)I had a similar problem with my pc and I went to device manager and removed my sound all together. Then I rebooted and windows found my sound drivers and reloaded them. It fixed my problem; I guess mine had become corrupted?? But it is worth a try anyway. :) Good Luck! I hope it works for u too!

Reply: (edit)Presumably you have checked all the physical connections? Try a System Restore to a point before the problem occurred, if there is still a problem (that can be fixed too!)... In Sounds & Multimedia, check out Properties of the installed components - Any messages like "Driver is enabled but inactive owing to an unknown problem"? That would suggest a driver reinstall. If you don't have the souncard's driver disk, download the latest drivers for your soundcard from the manufacturers website. Try removing ALL the Sound drivers in Device Manager from Safe Mode {F8 on Boot} before reinstalling. Post back, Bill.
