Specs: Windows XP
My notebook will play sound for everything but for internal DVD dirve. There I will see the frequency graph wiggle with the music - but not a peep. Any ideas what it could be?

Right click on volume control in task bar, choose 'open volume controls' and see if cd player is muted.

Also check to make sure that the sound is enabled on the actual device:

- Go to Control Panel
- Go to Sound/Audio Devices
- Select Hardware then the drive in question
- Go to the Properties tab

"Enable audio for this CD-ROM device" should be selected. If it's not, that would explain the lack of audio on DVDs and CDs.

I assume you're not having any trouble with videos on Youtube or sound that isn't linked to the DVD drive?

Yep, it was a stupidity attack. I thought I had checked that the sound was on in Windows Media Player, but I didn't see that little red symbol.

thanks! That was really frustrating me.
