Hey, I installed a BFG Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4600 video card in my system and I ran into a few problems. At first Ic ouldnt get it to recognize the driver for it, after some fiddling and playing I eventually got it to recognize the driver from the disk, no big deal. The second problem was the mouse no longer responded. After awhile of hunting around the internet (using keyboard only, mind you) I figured out my system.ini file has been corrupted. I do a little dleting and everyhting is fixed. Well, not everything. Now my final problem: I have no sound! I have a creative labs sound card but I dont use my speakers. I use somthing calle Line6 Guitar port (its USB and I can plug my headphones into it) Now no sound works. Under the system info it says my drivers are working correclty and all. As an extra measure I remove them and reinstall, still nothing. Under "sound and mulitmedia" it doesnt recognize any audio source installed but under the devices tab it shows my creative card and guitarport. Also, for some reason i cant open the volume control. I tried going into add/remove->windows setup->uncheck multimedia. Now the problem is I need to find my window ME Operating system disk to recheck this button. ARGH!!! My day is getting better and better. So suggestions would be very welcome. I've had this situation for a couple days and its starting to become frustrating. please help!

When you fixed your System.ini, did you check these lines are in there?
under the [drivers] section:
wave=mmsystem.dll
midi=mmsystem.dllunder the [boot] section:
system.drv=system.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll
sound.drv=mmsound.drv

I dont see ANY of these lines of code. Can I just ad them or do I need to install somthing? Thanks

I jsut added them to the system.ini file in the appropriate places and restarted. Nothing has changed, still no sound, devices still not recognized.

As I thought I said be4, there are no problems showing in device manager. Bill, I removed the lines of code that u told me to add because after I added them I got a direct x error trying to open warcraft3, I wasnt sure if that was the problem or not. So I'll send you my CURRENT system.ini file without the added lines of code.
