I used to get a prompt when I download zip files but not anymore. Everything used to work fine. I would download a file and receive the prompt of save to disk or run from current location. Then I canceled that file and proceeded to download another one and I got no prompt. It just automatically started downloading to a temporary folder. And this is what it has been doing for the past week. However, I've only noticed this with zip files. I get the prompt on every other file I've tried to download so far. I've tried everything in the internet options that I can think of to change it and I've also checked the options on my zip program with no luck.

Don't know about this one, but check your internet options. (in controlpanel or internet explorer) Perhaps you find something there.

Haven't heard of this one either... Are you using any sort of download manager like GoZilla? Are you using IE or Netscape?

I am NOT using any sort of download manager and I am using internet explorer. This problem just suddenly occured one day after I began to download a file, canceled it, and proceeded to download it again without getting a prompt. All zip files now go into a temporary folder. Perhaps it is just another bug in Windows ME.

I would try these things:
Open the options for internet, and click on every button that says to rebuild the standard options.
If that doesn't work, try reinstalling (=first uninstall, then install) your zip-program (winzip, or whatever you are using)
If that to doesn't work, try installing the latest version of Internet explorer.
If even that doesn't work, do as I did and stop using internet explorer and start using Opera. It's a much better browser in my opinion.
At least it doesn't crash so often as IE.Johan

wild guess
Internet Explorer>>Tools>>Options>>Advanced tab, scroll and look for box prompt when downloading it should have a check mark in it ,remove it , apply and again put the check mark back.
or try default setting bar

what I would do is go to start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore and restore back to when it was working ok. that may fix it, the above post sounds good to me too.
