The mouse cursor disappeared for no reason that I can pinpoint. This is not my system, so I can only go on what I was told by the owner.
In System, Device Manager there is a ! on the PS2 mouse entry.
I removed the mouse and allowed Me to re-install. No difference.
I used "detect new hardware" - no difference. The mouse stays missing and is not functioning as a right click on what should be the desk top does not do anything.
The message in the System, Device Manager, Properties reveals that " This devce is not working properly because Windows cannot load the file (vmouse.vxd) that loads the drivers for the device (code8)To fix the problem run setup againg using your CD-ROM."
Problem is that this is a new system and my customer never got a CD for ANY of the software they loaded - another sucker caught.
I do not have access to any Me CD`s only to Win98SE.
All help will be appreciated.
Thanks

if you dont know the name of the mouse / company you cant look up the drivers on the web. mouses are real cheap buy a new on for the friend, and plug it in. me will find the drivers or put in the floopy it comes with, and install them. your friend will be your best friend after that..

Mouse is a no-name-brand PS2, but I have also tried a Genius PS2 and a Microsoft Serial mouse. Me picked up the serial mouse and installed the drivers for it. It showed up in Device manager but with the ! .

try this go into the CMOS setup pressing the delete key at boot..then uninstall the cd rom from bootup sequence, then reset shut it down, then remove the cd rom cables and power cable, then bootup then go to device manager remove the drivers if still there for both mouse and cd drom. restart again see if the mouse drivers are ok NOW?
