No Icons or Task Bar

On start-up, the Packard-Bell runs through the BIOS setup and I get the Windows ME logo. The wallpaper comes up, the task bar comes up for about a second and then disappears, so all I'm left w/ is the wallpaper. Happens in safe mode also. Any thoughts?

Check the task bar properties and insure "auto hide" isn't selected.

I wish I could, but unfortunately I can't access the taskbar. Once it disappears after startup there's no icons - no taskbar - just wallpaper. The keyboard and mouse still function but that's about it. Have to control-alt-del to restart the PC.

hello boot into safe mode try system restore. look in device manager and see if any hard ware problems. try this link m.e wont start http://computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/30687.html

Also make sure you cant hover your mouse cursor at the bottom of your screen and get the double arrow symbol to resize your taskbar.I accidentally dragged it to the bottom and couldnt find it too.
