the only thing I can suggest is that on the screen where the icons should show, try right clicking the mouse (on part of the screen where it would be blank if the icons were there) a downlist appears then click to rearrange the desktop. If you get icons after this delete loads of stuff you don't need. It maybe you have overloaded with the last download you did

Thanks for your prompt reply,

Try using right click, no response on the desktop.

Unable to perform any scan as I am not able to do anything, nothing on screen for me to access!!

The only thing I can do is to ALT+CTRL+Del which will allow me to shutdown or to end task the Mdm . That's all!!

I have already tried to restore by booting up in Dos mode using the Windows Me start up disk, still the same.

Please help!!!

ring the company who supplies you with the internet service and they will talk you through what to do. They are only too pleased to help. They will beable to say if it's them or your pc. They will have computer technicians available
Can you not even get 'start' on the screen?

Hi,

Never used ME so I dont know if this will apply but we are having the very same problem with quite a few XP machines.

If after you press Ctrl, Alt and Delete you have the "task list" option click on it and the select "new task" then type explorer and press return this should load your desktop correctly and saves having to reboot the PC at least. Hopefully this is of some use to you Sim123. I am still searching for a more permanent solution though.

Sim123,

You might try;
scanregx/fix
instead of;
scanregx/restore

Be sure to have your product key handy, just in case it's needed.

If you know your way around in dos. You might check in your win.ini under [windows]. Look at load= run=. If there is anything listed after the =(sign) in either. You might try removing it, and see if you can get it to boot correctly after.

Also, in your system.ini, what is listed after the shell=, under [boot]. Is it Explorer.exe? If there is anything listed, besides explorer.exe, or plus something else. Try changing it to just Explorer.exe, and see if that helps. Make sure to make a record, of the way things are, before you change anything. That way, you can put things back, if need be.

I'll stop here, better not write a novel
;-)

One last thing, what was the last thing you did, before this happened. An update, an install of some kind. Just curious, thanks.

Good Luck

Hi

I have installed the stingray ADSL modem from Singnet Broadband. It was running fine for two weeks and the problem happened. I have formatted the harddisk and re-installed everything and this is the second time happening. I do not really suspect due to the s/w problem, however I am suspecting could be virus attack!! It was strange that there was no warning for virus invasion, I am using the Norton Antivirus 2003.
Frankly speaking, this Window Me has been running for 2 years on this system and with dial up mysingtel, there is no problem, ever since the ADSL modem s/w been installed, this problem arise.

I will try the above mentioned resolution given by you, anyway do you have any idea why is it happening??
