Comment:
Hi: I've tried to read all the control panel issues that might pertain to me but none are quit like mine. After an attempted software download for a new Visioneer scanner, this problem occured. I had gone back and remove the program, as I was haveing problems with the scanner. After removal of the scanner program, I was unable to get any icons on the control panel, even though it shows 30 objects. Also unable to use system restore. It just has a blank calender frame. Both control panel and system restore respond with the same error messages. There are two messages. The large error message window in the background says Internet Explorer Script Error in the title bar. In front of that error message is smaller error window that is titled Microsoft Internet Explorer. Below the title it says, An error has occured in this dialog. Below that it says Error: 30 Directly below that it says Unspecified Error. The Control panel appears to function ok in Safe Mode but the system restore still dosen't work. My PC was built by a small shop and I never received a system backup CD, so I can't reload the Windows ME. I downloaded Symantec Security Check and it found no problems. Also ran Scan Disk and Disk Defragmenter. I don't have many programs loaded. Any ideas would be very much appreciated, but please keep it in a low tech language, as I am not a PC technician. Thanks. Charlie
hello as kidd says with boot disk in drive reboot and do a:scanreg /restore click enter and a good restore point will have started beside it you have 5 regrestore points set by default. have a nice day
Thanks to The Kid and Dave. I tried your suggestion, going to scanreg/restore but unfortunately all of the restore points were after this problem occured a few days ago. My wife says I have become obsessed with this thing and should get rid of it. I hate to give up on solving a problem, but I think she may be right. Thanks again. Charlie
