i got rid of the spy ware i think but now i have this one-newnet--it comes up on search but it comes up as newnet.log, log file. i tried to open it but it has to be opened by something as it wont open by double clicking. what i dont get is i have internet properties set for history -0- i delete cookies and internet on and off line a bunch yet it still lets this spy ware get in.ive never heard of newnet so i was real surprised when it was in files. i wrote down the list that computing net gave and sending it to friends and relatives. thanks to all for help on this. that save now had 876kbs . i dont know if thats a lot but the way im getting these im sure they are using space.

Manual removal instructions for NEW.NET from the horses mouth

Be very careful with that piece of crapware. If not removed correctly, it will kill your internet connection if you are on Dial up or DSL.

If this happens to you... you can contact New.net "support" at:

626-229-7800

They are apperently very prompt at calling you back and walking you through the directions for uninstalling their software.

Check Add/remove programs first for an uninstaller. If it works, use it then delete everything in c:\windows\downloaded program files.

Brant - AdAware does not remove new.net. Voice of the Republic and others did extensive tests on this "plug in" and determined that is was not technically spyware, so AdAware stopped removing it. Cexx is out of date and out of the loop on that one... but it is still useful information.

That being said, new.net is still crapware and should be removed if you want to run a clean box without errors.

You got a whole lot more than new.net with Kazaa:

Giving KaZaA's Spyware A Root Canal...

Quote:

"KaZaA installs roughly 6 diffrent spy ware programs when you install the KaZaA program itself. These include New.net, Onflow, WebHancer , msbb, TOPtext and Cydoor . give or take one or two, depending on if your smart enough to uncheck all of the extra program options during the installation of KaZaA 1.3.1 I know what your thinking, 6 programs!! Thats allot! and your right, it is alllot, too much really. But have no fear, we will get rid of each and every one."
