Click for information on NewDotNet

What you have there is a nasty little piece of spyware. The above website will give you instructions on how to remove it from your box so you do not lose your internet connection.

Alternatively you can download and run:

Lavasoft's AdAware

Which should remove it for you.

Please read the first article before installing and running AdAware as there may be an easier way of removing it.

I have not been able to access the internet since Thurs. 8/30/01 due to a newdot~2.dll rundll error message. I have no idea how it got onto my system and my Windows install/uninstall will not allow me to delete the newdot program. (I get the same RUNDLL error message when trying to uninstall) I called the newdot company HQ this morning (626-229-7800) They said they would have a technician call me with instructions on how to fix this problem today.

I encountered this problem today, an alert box with the error file not found. In the add/remove section of the control box you should see new.net in the list. Try to remove it. If it gives you an error (it most likely will) then do a search on your system for a file newdotnet3_20.dll (or just search for files containing the text newdot). If you find this file, go to the command prompt and copy the file to newdot~2.dll in the c:\windows directory. Then go back and try to remove the program again through control panel. It should allow you.

I also had problems with the Newnet application in my system without me being aware of its installation or its purpose.

I emailed them at support@new.net and they sent me copyrighted (yes! copyrighted!!!) instructions on how to get rid of the program.

You actually have to go into the registry and modify the configuration if the application fails to be uninstalled by using the Add/Remove Programs software of Windows.

Don't waste your time trying to figure out this one! Just write to them and they will email you instructions on how to get rid of the NewNet Application right away!

According to the email I received, they have agreements with several companies to distribute their "NewNet Application" with software like: Go!Zilla, BearShare, Mp3.com, iMesh, Babylon, Cydoor, Webshots, GDivx, and KaZaA.

I feel it is a clear violation of my privacy to have installed in my system software by any internet company with obscure purposes and worst, without without me being aware of their action.

NewNet and those companies certainly deserve some class-action litigation!! Maybe that will discourage this nasty practice!

Good Luck to all of you!!!

Pablo.

i have had similar problems - the real file name is truncated to an 8 character name - there are several versions of it, however the real name is probably newdotnet3_22.dll (at least that's the version i got stuck with). both "normal" methods of removal have so far failed to work for me, by the way, and I am now asking them for the info needed.

I agree - this is a despicable practive - regardless of how much or how little information they send. From what I understand, the idea is to "guide" users to the websites of those people who have registered a website with them. I am not sure if this is true, however I feel quite confident that I can guide myself to whatever website I wish to go to!!

This is the same thing as a trojan infection - only worse: we know that any 14 year old with access to SubSeven and can use a mouse will try something, but companies u "trust" to download software from for purchase doing this is simply flat out abuse.

Anyway, this is just my opinion - worth maybe $0.02 cents - but I hope more people share it and that something can be done - perhaps boycotting all products that use this kind of software would be an idea?

I'm still trying to fix my box. Hopefully your posts will be of some use. Although I should be ticked off that someone is using sneaky spyware (installing on my computer w/o me knowing) mostly I'm mad that it's causing my computer to STOP FUNCTIONING. Obviously it is poorly written software, and someone should be ashamed of themself/selves.

Aight Guys. Heres a easy way to fix this problem. All you have to do is go to Start, then Run, then type in msconfig. When that opens up go to the Startup tab which is the last one. This tab shows all the programs that start up when your computer boots up. Scroll down and find New.net Startup and uncheck it. Click apply and then OK. It will ask to restart your computer. Do so and when your computer starts back up, the error message will not show up anymore. You can also uncheck all the programs you don't want to load each time you start your computer. This will make your computer start up faster.

I have a question for "Goose" in response 15. I tried to do as he said and type in misconfig in the run box, This does not work. It says Windows cannot find misconfig. Did I type in wrong word? I typed in exactly what was stated. What's wrong?

Please disregard my previous message about the problem with typing misconfig. I needed my glasses, it is msconfig and it worked. The offensive window is gone. Thank you "goose"

Ok so after getting a rundll32 general protection fault in some newdot module I start lookin on my pc and find these newdot dll files... and I realize I can no longer surf any websites. I used that ad-aware prog listed earlier in this thread and lo-and-behold it found like 40 files from different spyware. It got rid of them all, and I also used the msconfig command to stop that stupid newdot thing from trying to run at startup.
Makes me wonder how this bundled ad crap isn't considered as bad as a trojan or virus considering what it does to your pc.
