Hi, all. I have this difficulty that has me stumped.
Fresh installation of WinME. I am trying to get this machine to connect back to the rest of the network. We don't have anything fancy set up. We just need to be able to share files and printers. The other machines can see this machine all the time. When this one boots up it won't try to do networking. We get a "Can't connect to the network" error. Looking at the Start button it gives the choice to "Log Off...". No name of who this user is. If we do log off then it gives the option to log back in as the correct user and then the network works fine. Then looking at the Start button shows the option to "Log Off User1". I wanted it to signed in to 'User1' at start up when it boots every time.

I did the usual delete *.pwl files and set the network options to Windows Logon. The first time it comes up after deleting the pwl files it asks to sign in and then it doesn't ask again, but it still doesn't sign in CORRECTLY. I found the MS patch (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q272/9/91.ASP)that is supposed to fix the sign in thing but I think that may be what caused this other problem:

Now I find there are some other REAL problems: I deleted the NetBEUI Protocol to try adding it again and it won't go past the choose and clicking of the Add button. It just sits there! No activity. No error messages. Not hung up. Can click cancel and it goes away but it won't let me Add any of the Client Adapter Protocol or Service. I thought about trying to do system restore but there are no times to restore to and it hasn't been right since initial install. I don't know what to do. I am really stumped on this one.

My next steps are to try reinstalling on top of the current installation to see if it will cure the present problems without causing more. Somebody out there have any suggestions to fix this whole thing? jer...
