I have Windows 98 on one home networked pc with a Compaq IJ 900 printer as a local printer and Windows "Me" on the other pc using the Compaq as a shared network printer.I can't print from "Me".When I go to print,it seems to spool to "Me" with nothing appearing to spool to the Windows 98 pc.What is wrong with my printer configuration?

Are you using Win98 Second edition?
If so, use the Home network wizard, at the and of the installation, this wizard program will ask what resources should be shared.
Then run the wizard on your ME system and everything should work fine. You also can go to the printer map, select the printer and then pop up a menu by klicking on the right mouse button when your pointing the printer.
In the menu you can choose 'share', then you have to set a few settings.
After that, you go to the printer map on your Win ME system and add a new printer.
Just follow the instructions of the wizard (and select network printer)
At the end your printer should work from the ME system.By the way, do the computers have a correct IP adres ?
If you donn't know how to check, post it here...

Just a thought. I had a similar problem but in reverse. I found that the printer's network shared name on the local printer included spaces had spaces in it and that once I had renamed the share name to not include the spaces I could print across the network.
Hope this helps.

I am having a similar but different problem. I have a two computer network with a Win98 machine hooked to a WinME machine. The printer (Lexmark Z31) is on the WinME machine. I can print to the Z31 from the Win98 machine over the network, but I cannot print from the WinME machine that hosts the printer! The ONLY printing have been able to do directly from the ME machine is the print test from the Lexmark printer control program.
