I have been using broadband for a little over a year with no problems, but I have recently moved and am now forced to use dial-up. When I went to the network properties and tried to add the Dial-up adapter, the option to add a network adapter was no longer there. I then used to dial-up wizard to get around this problem; however, the tcp/ip>dial-up properties were missing some of the tabs. I tried removing all network adapters and settings. Then I restarted, and the computer found my network card and installed it. When I got to my desktop, an error appeared saying something about pokemon.exe and sockets (I forgot to write it down.) I have downloaded games from Kazzaa in the past, and one of them ended up being a program called pokemon.exe. The program did not visibly do anything, but I couldn't delete it because it always said the system was using it. I was finally able to delete it, but the problems with my network and dial-up settings persist. Nortan System Check came up with a shortcut error after I deleted the program. The error said that pokemon.exe had been tied to the system tray. Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated.

You have probably been running a trojan for a while. Being a broadband user.. you might have even helped out with an attack on other computers.

Do an online virus scan and see if your infected and what your infected with.

I recieved the pokemon.exe file from another user, but I made sure that it was not shared over my computer.

I posted this message on another computer in the house. I can not go online with my computer and thus can not use the online virus scan. I have Nortan Antivirus but it failed to find any viruses; however, it is a bit out of date.

This page offers some downloads for trojan & antivirus sofware. Most of its shareware. Download Norton to the clean machine, install it, update the definitions and create a set of rescue disks. Use them on the infected machine.

Download one of the trojan scanners and attempt to install it then run it on the infected machine.

Try posting this in the computing.net security and virus forum.

I tried downloading trojan software but it found nothing. Keep in mind that I was finally able to delete the file. What I really want to know is how do I fix my network settings.
