I was trying to install a program not long ago (can't remember what it was), and I encountered an error about Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. I remember downloading Framework from the Windows Update website a good while back. But I cannot uninstall it and do a clean reinstall of this program because it keeps asking for a CD for it or to find an installation package called "netfx.msi." I can find that file, but even finding it won't satisfy the operation.
I went to the Microsoft website to try to find a solution and did everything short of messing with the registry. I try to avoid that if at all possible. There were workarounds, but they were unsuccessful.
Can anyone help me with this?

Try this.
Open a command prompt.
Change to the folder where the netfx.msi file is located.
Type in: msiexec /x netfx.msiThat may work.
You can also re-download the .NET framework from Microsoft's web site, and try to reinstall it that way.

Thanks anyway, but no dice. When I try to open a command prompt, the computer freezes up in a black screen. So that won't work unless I boot it from a disk. I was able to download Framework again and double-clicked it like normal. It appears to be installing and then all of a sudden I can hear my A: drive trying to read and I get an error window that says: "Microsoft .NET Framework Setup failed. If the problem continues, contact Product Support Services." I'm gonna go back to Microsoft one more time and see what I can see, but I'm not holding out much faith that I'll find anything else there. Any more ideas?
