You have a problem with a CD-ROM drive. Looks like a dos problem but you are in a Win ME forum. Is your PC running dos or Windows? If you are running dos check that config.sys loads the CD-Rom driver and that autoexec.bat starts Mscdex: you need both lines working together.

Hi Sarah.

This is what that line means -

"CDR101: Not ready reading drive X"

There is no disc in the CD-ROM drive, you are trying to access the wrong drive, the disc may be bad or the tray may be open. (The indicator should light green when a disc is present.)

Can you boot up in Safe Mode?

Press and hold F8 during boot up.

It will display a menu with multiple boot up choices - 'Normal,' 'Safe mode,' or 'Command prompt only' (DOS mode).

Choose 'Safe mode'.

To see if your CD drive is installed go to -

Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Device Manager

(You should see the following if a CD drive is installed )

click on plus sign next to CDROM
click on name of CD Drive
Properties
Settings
Reserved Drive Letter - see what drive letter has been assigned to the CD drive.

If you need to install drivers for the CD drive -

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Add New Hardware

Following the instructions in the menus.

Take care,

Linda
