Hi Everyone

Know losts of wisdom is available on this prob but I am still confused and confounded.

I do loads of video editing/DVD authoring and have had no trouble for years. (Ulead VS8/DVD Shrink etc)About a month ago I was advised that I needed a new ASPI layer to accommodate some trial DVD authoring software. I duly downloaded the layer from Mero and the trial software works but..... nothing else does!! Seriously, whenever I try to use VS8 or other progs to burn it keeps telling me that I need the "original WNASP132.DLL" I have used an ASPI checker to test the status of the system and it confirms that ASPI is not properly installed as some components have been replaced by older versions etc. The WNASPI32.DLL shown is that which I downloaded a month ago fromm Mero. (Version 2.01 (74)-this is the one in the system folder)Interstingly when I search I found another WNASPI32.DLL -version 2.01 (59)in the Nero folder in prog files.

I should have said that the only Nero sotware I have is Start Smart which is very limited and I hardly ever use!)

I have tried to replace the Nero ASPI with ones advertised for download but I'm not sure if these are ME compatible and I get a problem as I cant delete the old file or overwrite with new DLL as the old one is password protected!!! Also says that the file is in use etc.

Sorry to ramble on but I wanted to try and get some ME specific solution to this. I will uninstall the free prog but I guess I somehow have to find and install a NEW wnaspi32.dll file.

Many thanks for your patience.

I've never heard of a password protected DLL, and I doubt if that is the case here

The 'original' WinME file (v1.0.0.1) can be extracted with msconfig - - have you tried that?

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

I'm glad to hear it's working - and pleased to see what's becoming a rarity here - - - a reply ; )
