I am running windows ME and was wondering how I could create a boot disk that would boot me straight into DOS, so that I could play some old DOS games. Is their an easy way to do this? I haven't worked much in DOS before so I am not very experienced in that environment. Thank

Not too sure about ME BUT in XP you right click on the "A" drive and click format, then just check the "create n MS-DOS startup disk"

Hope this helps

Let me know please, I'm curious now!

I wouldn't use a windows me start up disk
it's too limiting.
goto bootdisk.com or some place like that if you don't have access to win 98.

then you can edit it
like the config.sys and autoexec.bat files
to give you menu options.

be carefull to have the boot disk not point to the command.com in windows me.
because of the different version it most likely would give you an error.

so if you're using a boot disk just for DOS
I'd make the paths in the msdos.sys point to a:\ instead of c:\windows.

Conventional and Upper Memory

for running in DOS you'll most likely want to use the load high commands.
then also getting you sound card working in DOS sometimes can be a chore too.

I suggest taking things one step at a time
taking notes and printing out info so you'll have it while in DOS.
It took me hours the first time I setup for playing a DOS game outside of windows.
It wasn't as easy as I though it would be.

I would be more help but this topic is too broad.
If after you try a few things you might have a more specific question that would be easier to answer.

also you'll most likely want to use the line
DEVICE=A:\EMM386.exe RAM

instead of

DEVICE=A:\EMM386.exe NOEMS

you game might want ems memory
