I accidently deleted my rundll32.exe file can someone mail it or tell me where to get it? I dont have my win cd so that wont work.

Start >> Run >> Click "Extract File" button.
Specify the file -- rundll32.exe
In "restore from" put,
C\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALLIn "save file in" put,
C\WINDOWS
If that doesn't work, in "restore from" put, C\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABSIf that doesn't work, try,
Win_17.cabFirst one should be good though.

When are you receiving an error message having to do with rundll32.exe?
Is there a specific task you are attempting to perform when the error message appears?
What is the exact wording of the error message?

Viking, and masterchief,
I 'think' Viking meant,
Start>>Run>>Type; msconfig Press Enter.
Click "Extract File" button. ect. ect. and the rest, Viking wrote.
For goodness sake Viking, please don't be mad at me please ;-) Just trying to help, and with a smile also :-)
Good Luck,
S.T.A.R.

masterchief,
And, if for some reason, you can't do that. You can go here, and get/download it. Just trying, to be helpful ;-)
Good Luck,
S.T.A.R.

LMAO. Thanks for the correction S.T.A.R. 8-)
And there was me ...busy laughing at Leroi ;) :p 8-)Thinkin I was the smartass !! DAMN ...Back to you :p 8-)

I get the error message when i open anything in the control panel. I tried to dl it and i still got the error. I tried that other thing and for some reason it wouldnt work.... im probably just not doing it right but it would be great If u guys could mail the proper file to me, I have windows ME.

masterchief,
"I get the error message when i open anything in the control panel."
You were asked before, "What is the exact wording of the error message?" Please
Also, have you checked your system, for viruses, sypyware, adware, trojans, ect.? Have you removed, any of the previous things recently?
"...mail the proper file to me, I have windows ME."
If it's the wrong file, you downloaded the wrong one, from that site. The files, at that site, are the proper files, for each OS.
Here, are a couple things, to look at. Without knowing the error message, just guessing. One, and Two
Good Luck,
S.T.A.R.
p.s. Viking, I guess, I might as well get a Doct/Deg/Cert in that also. Oh, all that paper work ;-) Some may say, I already have an honorary one ;-) :-)

The exact wording is"windows cannot find C:\\WINDOWS\rundll32.exe'." I dont have a virus, I know what the problem is as I stated earlier, I have accidently deleted my rundll32. When I dled it from the site that other guy brought up I still got the error, not the right file for my system i guess...

Masterchief, there is no reason why you cannot get a brand new rundll32.exe from your own cab files (and ensuring you get the correct file version).
If you haven't already. Go to control panel >> folder options and click the "view tab"
Put a dot next to "show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck, hide file extesions for known file types.
Uncheck, "hide protected operating system files"
Now try those steps again and if you get stuck post back where, why and how you are stuck.
Start >> Run >> type, msconfig and click the "Extract File" button.
In the dialogue box, specify the file name, rundll32.exe
In "restore from" put,
C\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALLIn "save file in" put,
C\WINDOWS
If that doesn't work for you, then what happens ? And if it doesn't work try putting in the "restore from" box, C\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABSIf it fails, do the same again and put, Win_17.cab
Now try it again and post back what happens, I'm chained to a desk for a while today anyway.

This is the result (usually) of using a registry cleaning program and allowing it to remove Var1ID entries. If you can, restore the backup the registry cleaner should have created; barring that try a scanreg /restore.
Start>click run>type "scanreg /restore" (exactly and without the quotes, note the space between scanreg and the slash)>click okay>choose a registry from a time before you ran the registry cleaner (this will only work if it has been less than five days since). End tasks of all running programs except explorer and systray before performing this task using ctrl+alt+del.
There is a fix available that might help if this does not work, problem #9 on this page:
http://www.careyholzman.com/fixes.htm

I've tried restoring it, It says it does not have the file I tried all 3 things u said.....If this requires my WIN CD like I said before I dont have it.....

bump.......
I really need help with this I appreciate your efforts but the things u guys are suggesting arent working.

masterchief,
Ok, let's try this again, shall we. You said, that you "accidently" deleted your "rundll32.exe". Was that a total accident, or were you trying to rid yourself, of another problem? As I asked before.
That, >>rundll32_me.zip<< is a direct link, to the download at the site I gave you. When you click it, you should choose to save this file to disk. Then unzip/extract the rundll32.exe to C:\WINDOWS
So, you've tried, to run different control panel options, by either double-clicking the .cpl files, and also using different Run.. commands. Did either of those things work, or did you get an error? Do you have a "control.exe", and "control.ini" file, in the "C:\WINDOWS" folder?
You've restored a previous registry, yes, and that didn't help?
Could you do something, for me, please. Do a search, for "WIN_17.CAB", on C:\ Let us know, if you find one.
Also list, the things you've tried, to correct your problem, thanks.
:-) Oh, "bumping", is not going to bring your question, to the front/top.

I've tried Restoring it several times using all the files u gave me including WIN_17.cab.
I will try dling it again the first time i dled it i still got the error when I clicked anything on my control panel and not only that but some other things dont work too like my link to internet works....

masterchief,
"...all the files u gave me including WIN_17.cab"
So, am I to assume, that you have a "WIN_17.CAB", on your hard drive. As I asked, and didn't get a direct yes/no answers.
"...not only that but some other things dont work too..."
Worm, what worm? What things, aren't wo.....
Ah, instead of me typing things over, and copy&paste things, go back and read the QUESTIONS asked of you. [PLEASE] Then, reply back with the answers, to ALL questions. If you don't understand a question, ask for it to be clarified.
Until then, later, and good luck.
S.T.A.R.
p.s. Might have an appointment, with a fish, but, will check back :-)

Alright your not making sense to me...Im sorry im still learning the art of computers but anyways Im going to answer every question okay?
"when are u receiving the error message"
when I open anything in the control panel and my link to internet works does not work....im sure their are various other thigns that do not work...
"what are you trying to do when the error message appears" look above"what Is the exact wording"
C:\WINDOWS cannot find rundll32.exe"And if you've deleted it, check the recycle bin. If it's there, restore it."
nope not there........
"Also, have you checked your system, for viruses, sypyware, adware, trojans, ect.? Have you removed, any of the previous things recently?"Yes and I beleive my rundll32 had a worm which is why I deleted it.
"Start>>Run>>Type; msconfig Press Enter.Click "Extract File" button. ect. ect. and the rest, Viking wrote."
This and what viking wrote does not work. I've tried it many times doing it all the ways you said.
"And, if for some reason, you can't do that. You can go here, and get/download it. Just trying, to be helpful ;-)"
dled it 3 times does not work.:(
"So, you've tried, to run different control panel options, by either double-clicking the .cpl files, and also using different Run.. commands. Did either of those things work, or did you get an error? Do you have a "control.exe", and "control.ini" file, in the "C:\WINDOWS" folder?"Yes I get an error when I do these things, I'll search for control.exe and control.ini after this.
":-) Oh, "bumping", is not going to bring your question, to the front/top."
noted........lol and no I didnt write all that out. Your asking me If I have a WIN_17 file? Well I dont see how that will help but I will search for that too:)

Okay I have WIN_17 and I got control.ini and control.exe....
now I see why win_17 is so improtant as I saw a backup rundll32(Im sorry I was slow but now I understand what you were trying to say)
I restored It and when I went to open Internet works to see If It went okay It said "a required .DLL file,MSVCRTD.DLL, was not found." meh atleast something new.

masterchief,
Q: "Also, have you checked your system, for viruses, sypyware, adware, trojans, ect.? Have you removed, any of the previous things recently?"
A: "Yes and I beleive my rundll32 had a worm which is why I deleted it."
Was the "Yes", for both of those questions? If so, what was removed, besides the rundll32.exe?
"Yes I get an error when I do these things, I'll search for control.exe and control.ini after this."
Would that be the same error message, or different? The same, most likely.
What are the properties, of the control.exe? Right-click it, and click properties. What is the "Modified" date? Also, click the Version (Tab), and what does it list/say, for the "File version:" (number)?
If (I use that word, with hope :-)) you're still having problems, opening things, in control panel. Is it all things, or just certain ones?
"now I see why win_17 is so improtant as I saw a backup rundll32(Im sorry I was slow but now I understand what you were trying to say)"
Yes, it's important. All the things you were trying to do, to replace the file. Was looking for the "WIN_17.CAB", well looking for the file, that's in it :-) That's why, I asked you to search for it. You figured the rest out, all by yourself ;-)
"I restored It and when I went to open Internet works to see If It went okay It said "a required .DLL file,MSVCRTD.DLL, was not found." meh atleast something new."
:-) By new, do you mean the old problem, plus the new? Or what, do you mean?
You could try a search, of your C:\ drive, for the file. That way, you'll know if it's present. Might of been corrupted, in some way. Or maybe, even deleted. That goes back, to the question I asked before, about virus, spyware, ect. That's why, it's so important to answer the questions ask of you. And as I said, if you don't understand the question, have it put to you, so you do. You could go here, and get/download the "vbrun60sp5.exe". To try to fix, the last error you said.
Explain "Internet works", please. Thanks
S.T.A.R.
p.s. Didn't make that appointment, with the fish. No problem though, it rained enough, that he/she was able to come to me, IN MY BACKYARD. ;-) Mother Nature, she's such a sweetheart! ;-)

Ok right,
Masterwhatever, I had the exact same problem. I fixed it by doing the following. Download run32dll.exe from the link that was given above (restoring from cabs didnt want to work for me either.
Unzip the file and shove it somewhere, say the desktop. Now run 'msconfig' and click on expand/extract file. Now for 'file to restore' type rundll32.exe. In 'restore from' point it to the rundll32.exe on your desktop (click on browse to locate it. In 'save file in' put c:\windows
This should fix it.
