I mistakenly deleted my svchost.exe file, and the registry key. Is there ANY way to reinstall it or download it or recover it. My computer has not been the same since. I thought I was deleting a virus. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

highc, is the file still in the recycle bin? If so, restore it and 'problem solved'.
On the other hand, maybe you can use 'RESTORE' to go back to a valid registry?? Maybe the file can be extracted from a cab file?? A friend?? Dunno.

highc,

I know, I'm going to kick myself, for asking
:-)

Where was this "svchost.exe" located, before you deleted it?

What did you change, in the registry?

What info, did you get/receive, that told you it was a virus. A link, would be nice.

Do you have "Universal Plug and Play" installed, under "Communications", in "Windows Setup"? Also, "Internet Connection Sharing" Just curious, is all.

Do you have any software installed, for P2P?

What did you mean by this, "So far still getting error responses though.", and this also, "Right now Im reading up on how to extract it from \sysbackup\rb000.cab"

The address, in question, would be
C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\rb000.cab

"My computer has not been the same since." Could you explain that, a little more, in detail. Thanks.

Who's the manufacturer, of the computer?

Final questions :-) Your OS is WinME, yes? IF it is, is it an upgrade, or full OS install?

In thinking I had a virus. I went into regedit and deleted svchost.exe key. I also deleted my svchost.exe file which was in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 It was not until after I discoverd it was a legitimate file, the virus file is located in another Windows file not System32, which I dont think I ever had. Im not sure what svchost.exe was responsible for, but ever since deleting it my comptr does not respond the way it used to. exmpl..upon start up I must 'hit any key to continue' also the screen on my computer appears reduced in size (literally), mainly the right side.
