Here I am thinking that I have made backups of all my pictures and things I have saved on my computer, when I put the CD in the drive to make sure it's all there, only about 5 things show up. What am I doing wrong here? I have adaptec easy CD creator, version 4.0. I open it up, click create data CD, then go to the page that lets you click on each individual file and click add, then when all the files you want are showing in the box at the bottom, I click create CD. It supposedly creates the CD. But when I put the CD in the drive to check it out, I go to start/run and browse to the CD drive the CD is in, and it only has like about 5 things I burned to the CD. They are some programs I downloaded and wanted to save the installation files, so I don't have to redownload them again, in the event I have to reformat. Am I perhaps not doing something right when I go to browse to the CD drive? I can't figure out what I'm missing here. I am trying to make a backup copy of my favorites folder, pictures I have saved in My Documents, and also some programs downloaded. The only things that seem to be showing in the preview window when I put the backup CD in the drive and browse to the drive is some, not all, of the downloaded programs. Can someone help me here? If you need more information than I've supplied, let me know. This is getting kind of frustrating. Thanks for any help you can give me.

When you click on "burn", make sure to click the "advanced" tab on the menu that appears. You want to make sure to select the option to "close the session". Closing the session enables the cd to be read by the cdrom, but also allows you to add more recording sessions. If you select "close the cd", you won't be able to add more data to the cd later. Also, make sure to use the "import session" option (somewhere in the menus at the top of the program, can't remember exactly where). This will add the info from earlier recording sessions on the cd so everything can be seen. Usually Easy CD 4 does this automatically, but I always do it manually just to be safe. There is a free program called IsoBuster that will read everything on the cd even if sessions aren't closed or imported properly:

It has helped me retrieve info from cds that I thought were ready for the trash can.

I already checked all those options, and they were set like that. Is it because some of these files are jpg perhaps? I also had some letters I had saved, that aren't showing up either. It also seemed to get through burning the CD a lot faster than I would have thought, with all the data I had selected. As I said, only about 5 files are even showing up, and they are some programs I had downloaded. Not even all the programs are showing up, just some of them. I have looked all through the help section and am at a loss to explain what I'm doing wrong. Thanks anyway.

Might sound silly, but what is the total size of the 5 files?

It's less than 20MB. So I should have plenty of room on the CD. I'm really puzzled, and know I am doing something wrong, if it's only going about accessing the CD in the wrong way. But it copies it way too fast to be getting all the files I have selected copied to the CD.

I've backed up pictures the same way, so I'm at a loss to understand it too. In the past though, I have had to uninstall the program and then reinstall it when it malfunctioned, so you might want to try that. It's usually a pretty dependable program though. You might want to make sure the pictures are contained in a folder too, and not just individual jpg's.

I dont have an answer to your question about ez cd creator but........

20mb should burn fairly quick. Have you tried using directcd to burn your data? When you choose this option the disk is formatted and allows you to burn files like you would with a floppy. copy paste/drag n drop/send to etc. When your ready to remove the disk press the eject button on the drive and you will be given the option to leave the disk as is where it can be read or written to with direct cd or make it so it can be read in most standard cd roms.

The advantage to directcd is that you can leave the disk inserted for days/weeks/months etc and be able to burn data over as its created/downloaded etc.

I think I've figured out the problem. It's the way I'm trying to view the CD. I went to windows explorer and clicked on the CD drive, and there everything is. I don't guess you can access the files by going to start/run and then browsing to the drive. Now, how do I reinstall the programs and pictures if I reformat? Just drag and drop them from windows explorer to my documents? Thanks guys!

Either dragging and dropping or cut and paste both work fine to retrieve files from the cd. It's also best to drag programs from the cd to the desktop before trying to install them.

Just thought I'd mention that you can view everything by double clicking "My Computer" and then double clicking the cd drive icon there too. I didn't know any of this stuff a year ago either, so don't feel bad.

hello
just rember any files you burn to cd when draged and droped back are now read only
its ok for mp3s and jpegs and text, but you will most likely have to change programs to archive, to do so right click on file chose properties and click archive.
have a nice day

If you copy hidden files to cd they will still be hidden when burned also.
