A virus got into my computer and has deleted some config. files. The computer will not boot into windows; instead a message on a black screen will say "Cannot locate SYSTEM.INI please insert EBD." I need to figure out a way to get a EBD for ME. I can't let my files on the computer be deleted at all.

kswholt,
Here, you can download a EBD (emergency boot disk), boot disk, startup disk.
After you download the file. With a floppy in the computer, double-click the file you downloaded. It will put the needed files on the floppy. After it's done, take the floppy out, and write protect it.
Now, start the problem computer with this disk. Then type scanreg /restore (press Enter). You will be shown reg backups. Choose the latest dated one with the word Started by it. After it says a good working registry has been restored. Remove the floppy and continue. If all is ok, the computer will start. If it doesn't, do the same, but choose another date.
The reg backups, also include system.ini, and win.ini.
Just curious, have you tried to boot this computer a few times after this, or tried to boot into safe mode.
That daft phone!! I'll check back later, and forgive any spelling, grammar errors didn't have time to check
Oh, what virus?

ALWAYS BACKUP IMPORTANT FILES!!You never know when a virus is going to get you or a hard drive is going to go kapoot. I learned the hard way and now I backup onto a cd and also onto 2 other hard drives!
