Comment:

Compaq 566 128m-RAM,WinME,ADSL, 32M-vcard.

About every ten mins there is a brief slowdown in my sys. It only lasts a few secs, the h/d spins, drags my resources down, then it stops.

I'm guessing that something is writing some sort of back-up to my h/d but I CAN'T find out what it is or why it's doing it. It's very irritating.

I've checked the task mgr, sched agent,(which I shut down) v-scan, BlackIce, etc, none of which are showing any kind of setting to write a b/u whatsoever. Called up the control mgr, nothing running that isn't supposed to. Ran msconfig, nothing there but the bare mins.

This may not be significant, but since I ran adaware in the last 24 hrs, it hasn't done it but now my graphs will slow down from time to time on my v-games. I'm very confused on this, and really agitated. I'm not the brightest comp person, and it's taken a lot of work to tweak this thing just right.

Any suggestions?

Dino

pressing ctrl+alt+del will show what is running, i would run a virus scan to be on the safe side.

My guess is that it's your system restore collecting data. You could try disabling Restore just to see if the problem goes away. If memory serves me with ME, right click on My Computer, Properties, Performance, File System, and somewhere around there is the place to deselect Restore (probably will have top reboot). Normally regular, frequent, periodic activity on the hard drive while pc is not in use is caused by Restore in Me and XP.

hello
this may not be your problem but you could try useing boot disk and do a registry restore to a point a few days back .by default you have 5 days worth of registery back ups.
you could allso do system restore but any new soft ware since restore point will be lost
pc health on some machines is set by defalt to back up files.this sounds like your 10 minet interval.but some thing else seams to be helping this make slow down.
mine allso is set at 10 minets intervals. but ive got no slow downs.
have a nice day
