My sound has stopped working

My computer updates things on it own. it has just updated something and now when I come to play music or any sound this error appears and no sound. I've checked all setting the are all disabled

There is no sound card
Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

system specs? Sounds like you have an IRQ conflict. Have you updated drivers? Installed anything recently?

Sounds like your computer went for an update patch that fouled things up. Try restoring your system to a time prior to the loss of sound. Access Restore from Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Restore. Good Luck. (Restore only repairs certain things it is not a complete harddrive backup so this may not help, but it won't hurt to try, you can undo any restore that doesn't work.)
