Comment: My computer updates things on it own. it has just updated something and now when I come to play music or any sound this error appears and no sound. I've checked all setting the are all disabled There is no sound card Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

Reply: (edit)Sounds like your computer went for an update patch that fouled things up. Try restoring your system to a time prior to the loss of sound. Access Restore from Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Restore. Good Luck. (Restore only repairs certain things it is not a complete harddrive backup so this may not help, but it won't hurt to try, you can undo any restore that doesn't work.)
