I get this message on the black screen during boot up-Invalid setting in the msdos.sys-Bootmenudefault-1

I looked for my msdos.sys and I found it yet it has nothing in it, its 0kb. What do I do? THanks

Msdos.sys is built by SETUP during the install process. You could go to \Windows\Options\Install\ and run the Windows ME setup and re-install Windows. Or you could copy one from a system running Windows ME.

Untill you can find a complete copy, use NOTEPAD edit your current C:\MSDOS.SYS file and cut and paste the following lines:

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
AutoScan=1
WinVer=4.90.3000
