You might go to your task bar, right click, choose properties, advanced. Then remove those two items, restart, add them back and see if that helps.

OK, then I will assume that it has been like that from the getngo. When my system was out of the box, it had no search. It showed up, but would not work. After trying everything I could think, I bit the bullet and reinstalled ME. To my GREAT supprise, I did not lose a thing. I did have to rethrough away some of the same stuff from windows that I did'nt want, redo a couple of icons and that was it. Except my search worked now! So, I guess what I'm saying, I would not be affraid to reinstall ME. Yours like mine, might not have been a complete install from the factory. 30 minutes is about all it takes. Sorry, I'm sure you did not want to hear that. But that is my best guess. Maybe someone else out there has a better idea. : ) HAL8000

My computer didn't work right either when it was new until I went ahead and reinstalled Windows. It ran perfectly afterwards. I don't know if it's caused by the disk imaging install they use at the factory or if the integrity of the install degrades as the computer sits unused in the warehouse waiting to be sold, but it sure is frustrating. I've heard that some people like to reinstall the operating system as soon as they get a new computer.

I was just wondering if you can access either folder from inside Windows Explorer. That would at least tell you if the start menu shortcuts are just broken, or if My Documents and My Pictures are totally missing from Windows. What happens when you try to save a document? Also, does the desktop shortcut to My Documents work?
