My documents icon disappears

My documents Icon on my desk top disappears all the time! Everytime i drag it and drop it back on my desk top it disappears again?? any ideas on why this is happening or how I can fix this

What you suggested fixed MY problem on the same issue. But I'll be damned, have no idea how the option was unticked though. *looks around* must have been the devil!
