Subject: My computer won't boot-PLEASE HELP! OS: Windows ME CPU/Ram: 700MHz Celeron/128MB RAM

Comment: Greetings everyone: I want to know if anyone could help me with a problem I've encountered. I recently downloaded and installed a program called "Lite-Step" (Which is a program designed to be a shell replacement for Windows) onto my computer and when I was prompt to reboot, the system completely shut down on me. Now, everytime I attempt to start my computer, It will not boot because an error message stating "Error in loading program C:/Program Files/LiteStep/litestep.exe. You must reinstall Windows" always pops when the system attempts to load the hard drive. When I press the OK button, my computer then completely shuts off. I don't know what could have went wrong. I've tried getting some technical support from LiteStep.com, but was unsuccessful. Is anyone fimiliar with LiteStep? Could anyone offer any sugguestions as to how I could get my computer to startup? Windows ME was pre-installed on my system, so I don't have the CD, nor do I have a Windows ME Startup Disk. What should I do? I've called several computer techs here in town and they are just itching to get to my system, but I don't want to have to resort to paying one $60 or $70 dollars to fix the problem if it's possible that I can do it myself (with the assistance of your responses and feedback). I know that I didn't damage my system, it just won't start up. Maybe the LiteStep program did something to Windows...I don't know. Someone please help me because I am totally lost!!!

Reply: (edit)LOL $60-$70.. The shop I work for charges $75/hour. Try booting to DOS and editing the system.ini. see if the shell=explorer.exe is there. If not change the shell= line to shell=explorer.exe
