After a while I'm working with windows ME like an hour or so my computer slows down with no reason. when I check the system resources they show that 88% of the system resources are free. What can I do?

Follow the advice of these guys and disable system restore and pc health checks. They are performance hogs (especially system restore). One guy that removed it completely told me that the file was about one gig and took 40 minutes to delete.

Sys restore uses approx 8-10% of your total hdd space. also try start run type in msconfig and edit it down to the nessary stuff. if you remove the sys restore, make sure you do frequent back ups.

I have the same problem. I have an Athlon 800 with 128 MB RAM but after about 30-40 min, my computer begins to move extremely slowly. I have done what was said, but still run pretty badly. I don't want to format my computer if there is a simple explaination for this.

I've tried removing one program at a time but even with nothing running (including the ctl+alt+del programs) it still runs really slowly. Could the problem be hardware? or maybe WinME?
