hey there,
my computer just keeps switching off by itself for no good reason, HELP ME!!! it's starting to get annoying, it dosen't happen at any particular event either, just one minute it's on and then the next *blink* off! Thanks

Robert,
It could be a number of problems. Best advise take it into a repair shop and have them look at it.

First you need to determine if it is being caused by a house power problem, a hardware problem or a software problem. (A good repair shop would do the same, but most just replace a few things and charge you for it.)
Run a standalone memory test from a DOS boot diskette. Get both DocMemory_v2.0 and MemTest86_v3.0, and make their boot diskettes. You should be able to run both for at least 12 hours without errors to test your hardware, before you suspect Windows ME is the cause of problems.
If you can run the memory tests for long periods of time with no memory errors or power off failures, then the problem is caused by a software problem.
If the memory tests detect memory problems, then fix them.
If the system still powers off, then it could be an over heating problem with the system. In this case, it normally takes awhile before the system will turn on again.
If it powers on quickly and runs OK for a while, suspect either an overloaded or defective power supply, or electrical power problems. (Do lights flicker). If you suspect power problems, you may want to buy a low cost UPS power supply. APC makes good ones. And all you really need is one that can run the system for four of five minutes in case of a power failure. What you are looking for is something that can protect your system from short power glitches or dim outs where the line voltage drop for a few seconds. They also protect you from noise spikes on the power lines. Such conditions can cause an overloaded power supply to shut off.

have you checked the power saving mode in display properties i.e shutdown computer after 20 minutes etc.. another sugestion is that in the bios it might have a power saving option, or might have an option to shutdown when system or cpu temperature gets to hot.
hope this helps
