Reply: (edit)Turn your computer off and restart tap your F8 key, just keep taping, a menu will come up saying Safe Mode put the number in and enter and perform your scandisk and defrag in Safe Mode.

Reply: (edit)Victor, Just to explain, pressing F8 key when your system is booting on the black DOS screen will boot it into Safe Mode, where your startup files are bypassed. You will end up with a "minimalist" windows running where you can scandisk or defrag safely. The reason for doing this is that more often than not, other programs running tend to screw up the scandisk or defrag operation. Running in safe mode eliminates this problem as you don't have loads of other progs running. When done, click start/shutdown/restart to boot back into your normal windows. Mark
